Trust & safety
Protections that keep work and payments on Picklancer, plus practical guidance for staying safe.
Platform protections
Escrow on every order
Client funds are held until delivery is accepted or an admin settles a dispute.
Verified freelancers
Phone OTP and government ID verification before a freelancer can sell or bid.
Contact-sharing filter
Chat blocks common phone, email, and off-platform contact patterns to reduce scam risk.
Milestone control
Larger jobs can be split into milestones, so funds release in stages rather than all at once.
Reviews after completion
Both sides can leave ratings once an order is completed — ranking updates for freelancers.
Admin tools
Suspend/ban accounts, approve withdrawals, and arbitrate disputes from the admin console.
Safe hiring — for clients
- Keep the full scope, price, and deadline in writing on the order or job post — not only in chat.
- Fund escrow through the platform before work starts. Never pay a freelancer directly for on-platform work.
- Review delivered work carefully before releasing funds — release is difficult to reverse once complete.
- If a freelancer asks to move the conversation or payment off-platform, treat that as a warning sign, not a convenience.
- Use milestones for larger jobs so you're only funding the next stage once you're satisfied with the last one.
Staying protected — for freelancers
- Only start work once escrow shows as funded on the order — a promise to pay is not the same as held funds.
- Keep deliverables, revisions, and scope changes documented on the order, not only in chat.
- Decline requests to be paid off-platform for work that originated here — it forfeits escrow and dispute protection.
- Use the revision flow for scope clarifications instead of informally expanding a fixed-price job for free.
- Report a client who pressures you to share personal contact details or bypass verification.
Warning signs of a scam
Most marketplace fraud follows a small number of patterns. Treat any of these as a reason to slow down:
- Any request to pay or be paid outside the platform for work that started here.
- Urgency or pressure to skip escrow, verification, or the standard order flow "just this once."
- Requests for gift cards, crypto transfers, or payment apps instead of the platform's funding flow.
- A buyer or seller asking you to communicate only through personal email, phone, or messaging apps.
- Offers that sound significantly better than the market rate with very little scope detail.
Reporting a problem
If an order has already gone wrong, open a dispute directly from the order — that’s the fastest way to freeze escrow and get an admin involved. For anything else (suspected scam attempts, harassment, policy violations, or a safety concern that isn’t tied to a specific order), contact support@picklancer.com with as much detail as you can — usernames, order IDs, and screenshots all help us act faster.
Formal policies
The guidance above is practical advice — these documents are the enforceable rules:
